Hey...
Questo è il mio secondo giorno qui a Lacor, wow un'esperienza magnifica. Oggi Sister Rose, un'infermiera, mi ha portata a vedere l'ospedale, mi ha fatto vedere i diversi reparti, le parti di cui è composto l'ospedale. Ho visto dei reparti che mi ricorderò per tutta la vita... il primo nella quale mi ha portato, e uno di quelli che mi hanno colpito di più, è il reparto dove cerano donne che stavano partorendo, posso dire con serenità che questo ospedale è un ospedale nella quale si insegna anche a coloro che non sono ancora studenti di medicina. Mi ha fatto vedere un bambino appena nato, e quando dico appena parlo sul serio. Penso proprio che fosse nato da qualche minuto quando l'ho visto. Il secondo reparto è stato il "pronto soccorso" qui lo chiamano emergency, mi ha detto che alla mattina non si trova molta gente ma durante la giornata si riempie. Gli altri reparti si svolgono in maniera molto simile, prima le persone che arrivano devono passare all'entrata dove ci sono dei dottori che li visitano in delle stanzette, che vengono chiamate history, poi successivamente il paziente viene mandato in una zona precisa e lì un altro dottore visita ulteriormente lo stesso paziente perché questo deve essere mandato in una zona ancor più appropriata, ad esempio le donne incinte, come primo step devono essere esaminate per vedere se stanno per partorire oppure se manca ancora un po' di tempo, poi vengono portate in sala parto se no vengono portate, appunto, in una sala per farle attendere. Le zone per i bambini sono più complicate, ci sono le zone per i bambini dai 0 ai 5 anni, dai 5 in su, per i bambini malati a lungo termine, cioè con una malattia che si cura col tempo e con medicinali, questo posto si chiama children ward, dove ci sono bambini malati di aids, ebola e altre malattie che colpiscono il sistema immunitario, poi c'è il reparto bruciature, sia per i bambini che per gli adulti. Per gli adulti le zone sono molto simili. Ed infine ci sono i reparti di chirurgia. Successivamente mi ha portata in una casa a parte, dove c'è la scuola per infermieri.
In conclusione di questo tour dell'ospedale Sister Rose mi ha portata a vedere le tombe dei miei zii, queste sono affiancate dalla tomba di un dottore, dottor Matthew, morto circa nel 2000 per la grossissima epidemia di ebola che era esplosa in quel periodo, e affianco alla tomba ci sono tutti i nomi di infermieri e dottori che sono deceduti anch'essi per causa dell'epidemia.
La parte più interessante della giornata però è accaduta nel pomeriggio quanto il chirurgo ortopedico italiano, Nino, mi ha permesso di entrare in sala operatoria con lui, per osservare una ferita d'arma da fuoco, su un poliziotto, causata nella sparatoria che si è verificata una settimana fa a Gulu, una ferita causata da un kalashnikov. Questa ferita si estendeva da una parte del braccio all'altra, l'ortopedico mi ha spiegato che questa ferita ha causato dei danni molto gravi al braccio, ha distrutto il nervo radiale, questo è il nervo che ci permettere di muovere il polso e di aprire e chiudere la mano, ma non ha solo distrutto questo nervo ha distrutto anche porzione dell'omero. Mi ha spiegato che appena il braccio non sarà più infetto e si sarà cicatrizzato unirà le due estremità dell'osso cosicché queste possano ritornare in un certo asse.
Oggi posso dire di aver imparato molto e in molti campi, ma soprattutto ho sviluppato la mia passione per la chirurgia ortopedica.

Today is my second day at Lacor Hospital , wow an amazing experience. Today Sister Rose, a nurse, took me to see the hospital. I saw some departments that I will never forget... The first that she took me to see, and one of my favorite, is the one in which the women were giving birth, I can say that this is a teaching hospital and not only for the medicine students but even for people that are not into medicine school yet. She showed me a child that was born a few minutes earlier. The second department was the emergency department, they told me that in the morning there weren't a lot of people but during the day people would come and fill it up. The other departments are nearly the same, firstly the people that arrive at the hospital have to wait for their turn to be seen by some doctors in small room, called history, after the patient is sent to a more specific area where another doctor will reexamine the patient and sent him/her to a more specific area, for example pregnant women, the first step is to see if they are ready to give birth or if they have more time to wait, then they are taken to the birth room or in the waiting room. The children department is much more complicated, there are zones for kids from 0 to 5 years old, then for kids older than 5 years old, for sick kids that have been or will be treated for a long time, this lace is called children ward, were there are kids that have aids, ebola and diseases that hit the immune system, then there is the burn unit, for both children and adults. Adults have similar areas. The last department that I saw was surgery. Afterwords she took me to see a detached house, this was the nursing school.
In conclusion Sister Rose took me to see the tomb of my uncle and aunt, these are next to doctor Mathew's tomb, he died in 2000 for the Ebola epidemic that was happening during that year, near his tomb there are the names of all the nurses and doctors that deceased for that epidemic.
The most interesting part of the day happened in the afternoon when the Italian orthopedic surgeon, Nino, allowed me to enter his operation room, here calle theatre, he was fixing a gunshot-wound, on a police officer, caused in the shooting that acquired one week ago in Gulu, a wound caused by a kalashnikov. This injury was extended from one part of the arm to the other, the orthopedic explained to me that this injury caused a lot of damage to the arm , it destroyed the radial nerve , this nerve is the one that allows us to move the wrist and to open and close our hand, but this injury didn't only damage the nerve it destroyed a portion of humerus. He explained that as soon as the arm is not infected and it will be cicatrize he will join the extremity of the bone left, so the bone can return on his axis.
Today I can say that I have learnt a lot and in a lot of fields, but most important  I developed my passion for orthopedic surgery.
